Who Is "The Man"?

The entry before this one was and the next one is New Car.

The Man is your executive boss, that big corporation you work for, your landlord, the government, credit card companies, law enforcement, and any other entity that relies on you to "play your part- no questions asked" for their gain or maintenance of profit and power. The Man generally isn't a single individual. It's a system made up of people, policy, and procedures.

Take a publicly traded corporation for example. Typically, a company will slowly transform itself into an Corporation that is solely driven by stock price alone. Everything the Corporation does is geared toward increasing its own value. This organization is made up of individuals like you and me that just do their part. We don't want to hurt anyone. We just want our paycheck and to have our own life, right? Unmanaged, the organism itself can grow to be an immoral, insatiable entity that continues to grow for the sake of increasing its value. Because that's the way the System is designed. It becomes so huge that there is no way one person can control its behavior. The Man has awesome power. If any part of the system fails or doesn't add value to itself, The Man can easily remove or replace the part to continue on his path.

The Man needs you to function. Any compassionate soul would assume that The Man would take care of you... not so. The Man doesn't care about you, your life, or your goals. What he does care about is that you play your part. No more. No less. The Man may lift you up occasionally (as the system may be designed). But The Man will primarily hold you down.

Some people are perfectly happy working for The Man. It's a safe and comfortable spot. That's fine. But there are a select few of us that just know there's a bigger and better life for them. So they say, "SCREW THE MAN!" and become their own Man. These individuals grow their OWN value and are geared towards their OWN goals. Many successful individuals grow and then they become The Man. And the cycle continues...

Please note The Man is very different from Da Man. If someone calls you "Da Man", you should thank them. Don't punch them. That's not nice.
