Post Car Show
The entry before this one was Show n' Shine and the next one is New Wheels.
The car show was pretty good. I think I chatted with at least a couple hundred people. I answered the same questions so many times that my Dad and Jenn had no problem covering for me when I needed the occasional pee break. The most I got to see of the car show itself was when I sat in traffic going home. There were nearly 2500 cars on display!
I figured out that people didn't realize my car was in bare metal just walking by. They just thought it had some crazy ass black and silver paint job. I made up a sign to put on the windows explaining the display and it worked out tremendously. The other thing was sometimes people thought I was selling the blasting equipment and media (despite all my signage reading "Professional Mobile Media Blasting"). The only other annoyance were how many people were from out of state trying to get me to do their cars. I finally started telling people I'd only go 100 miles out with my service. I also thought I'd be booking some appointments at the show, but I never really did. Even without seeing much of the actual show, I was a little sick of the whole car scene by the end. I'm admittedly car crazy. But there's plenty of overweight gray-beard's that take it even further than I do. Seeing so many enthusiasts together made me wonder why we spend all this time and money doing this stuff. It was borderline gearhead depression! But cruising around that night in the '54 made me feel a little better. It's a LOT of fun dumping the air bags while sitting at red lights and popping up to go on green.
Late yesterday (Sunday) I got a call to do a trailer this morning at one of my "regulars" shops. While doing that job, I had a few more calls. Next thing I know, I'm running home to grab a bite to eat and some soda to blast a sport bike frame (a 2007 Yamaha) before I head out of town to quote a job. By the end of the day, I had scheduled to do a full car every day this week but Friday and I wouldn't be surprised if I book that day tomorrow sometime. The best part is most of the appointments are with local shops. I've been doing the work for relatively cheap to show them the product/process and every single one has been super happy with the results. One of the things that attracted me to this business is someone told me I'd almost always happy customers when the job is done. So far it's proven itself true.
