Many Plates Spinning

The entry before this one was New Wheels and the next one is Car Stuff.

The blasting business has been steadily growing. I've been doing 1 or 2 full cars per week with several small jobs thrown in. Which is almost where I'd like to be. I'd like to get my prices a little higher and do 2 or 3 full cars, or their equivalent in small jobs, per week. It is a physically demanding type of work (in a good way) and I'm not sure doing more than 3 or 4 full cars per week would be very fun. This week I'll have a presence at another local car show that's really close to my house. I'll be running the same display so the pressure isn't quite as high as it was getting ready for the first show.

The game business is about to kick in to gear with a totally new Xbox Live project. I'm excited about the project for several reasons. We'll be using the Torque Game Engine to get a head start on the graphical and art pipeline side of things. That combined with the relative simplicity of the gameplay itself (relative to what I've been working on) should make this project much more relaxed than the last one. I'm also told that Microsoft has a lot of interest in this project since it is trying some cutting edge things that I'm not at liberty to discuss. I'm also trying to become independently licensed as a Xbox developer. Which means Blast Off Games would be officially licensed to develop for Nintendo and Microsoft game platforms. Pretty cool for a one man show, yes? Now I just need to decide if I can hold out to the end of the month to get an Xbox Elite!

Oh yeah, I've got a long list of personal car projects that I plan on chewing on in the next few months too. Plus, starting tomorrow, I'm taking adult night classes on Monday/Tuesday nights for autobody, painting, and welding.

SHWEW! How's it all going to get done?

The beauty of the blasting business (I believe I've mentioned this before) is that it is mobile and appointment based. So my current thought is to only schedule blasting work on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. This will give me Tuesday and Thursday plus evenings for game development. If I find I need more time for development, I can just take another day away from blasting. The studio I'm developing for is in San Diego which means even on blasting days, I'll be available to them in their early afternoon. I'm going to try and keep my weekends open for personal time. But we'll see how that works in the late summer and fall when the game project is wrapping up. ;o)

Stay tuned and wish me luck!
