EnergyAustralia Admitted It Broke the Rules on Your Free Power. Here Is What to Do Right Now.

EnergyAustralia has admitted to the ACCC that it breached the Electricity Retail Code over a delayed free power offer. That is not a rumour, not a complaint, not an allegation. That is an admission. If you were a customer on or around that offer, you may be owed a credit or remedy right now and the company already knows it. The question is whether you are going to sit quietly or go and get what you are owed.

What the law says

Under the Australian Consumer Law, businesses must not engage in misleading or deceptive conduct, and they must deliver on promises made to consumers. The Electricity Retail Code sets specific obligations on licensed electricity retailers about how offers must be honoured. EnergyAustralia has admitted a breach of that Code. That admission matters because it removes the usual corporate two-step of deny, delay, and deflect. You do not need to prove the breach happened. They already said it did. Check your billing history for the period the free power offer was supposed to apply. If the credit did not appear, or appeared late, contact EnergyAustralia in writing and ask for a full account of what you were owed and what you received. If they stall, escalate to your state energy ombudsman. That service is free. Keep every email and every bill. Do not accept a verbal resolution with nothing in writing.
